Arctic Cathedral
Tromsø, Norway
About This Activity
The Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen) is Tromsø's most recognizable landmark — a dramatic 1965 modernist structure whose sharp triangular aluminium panels echo the shape of glaciers and the midnight sun reflected on icy fjords. The rear wall features one of the largest stained glass windows in Europe, a stunning piece by Victor Sparre depicting the Second Coming with Arctic light effects. During the summer midnight sun period the cathedral hosts special concert performances that are a highlight of any Tromsø visit.
