Cabo da Roca — Europe's Westernmost Point
Sintra, Portugal
About This Activity
Cabo da Roca is a windswept granite headland 140 meters above the Atlantic, marking the westernmost point of mainland Europe. The 18th-century lighthouse and stone monument with Camoes's words ('Where the land ends and the sea begins') make it one of Portugal's most iconic photo stops. Reachable by bus 403 from Sintra (40 min) or as part of a day trip combining Sintra and Cascais. Allow 30-45 minutes at the cape itself.
Seasonal note: Open year-round and free to visit. The cape is extremely windy — bring a jacket even in summer. Sunset visits are spectacular but temperatures drop sharply; afternoon light is best for photography.
