Pena Palace & Gardens
Sintra, Portugal
About This Activity
Perched atop a peak in the Sintra Mountains, Pena Palace is Portugal's most visited monument and a UNESCO World Heritage masterpiece. Built in 1854 for King Ferdinand II, its candy-colored towers blend Moorish, Gothic, Renaissance, and Manueline styles into a fairy-tale silhouette visible from Lisbon. The surrounding 200-hectare park features exotic trees from five continents, hidden chapels, and winding trails. Book timed entry online to skip queues. Allow 2-3 hours for both palace and park.
Seasonal note: Open daily 9:30am–7pm (closed Dec 25 & Jan 1). Best spring/autumn — lush gardens and cooler air. Pre-book timed entry online; summer tickets sell out weeks in advance. Arrive before 10am to avoid the worst crowds.
