About This Activity

Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond (historically called Anapji) is a reconstructed 674 AD Silla royal garden featuring three artificial islands, ornamental stone shorelines, and three restored wooden palace pavilions. After dark, the site is illuminated and the reflection of the pavilions in the still water creates a dreamlike vision of ancient Korea — it's Gyeongju's premier night attraction. Admission is ₩3,000 per adult; the site is open 9am–10pm (last entry 9:30pm). Over 30,000 artifacts recovered from the pond during 1970s dredging are displayed at the Gyeongju National Museum.

Seasonal note: Year-round; illuminations are most magical on calm nights when the pond surface is still. Visit at dusk to catch the sunset-to-illumination transition.
