Barceloneta Beach
Barcelona, Spain
About This Activity
Barceloneta is Barcelona's original beach neighborhood, a triangular 18th-century grid of narrow streets wedged between the port and the sea. The 1.1 km beach is backed by the Passeig Marítim promenade with chiringuitos (beach bars) serving cold beers and fresh seafood. Frank Gehry's golden fish sculpture marks the Olympic Port end. The Barceloneta neighborhood behind the beach has excellent tapas bars — try La Cova Fumada (cash only, no sign, queue from opening) for authentic bombas, the fried potato croquettes invented here.
Seasonal note: Swimming season May–October. Summer months are crowded; May and September are ideal.
