Ha Long Bay Floating Fishing Village Visit
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
About This Activity
Several hundred families still live in floating villages on Ha Long Bay — Cua Van, Ba Hang, and Vung Vieng are the most visited. Houses float on pontoons connected by walkways; fishermen tend fish and oyster cages suspended below. Most cruise itineraries include a village visit by rowboat or kayak, with local women rowing wooden sampan boats through the lanes. Government relocation programs have gradually reduced village populations, making these communities increasingly precious. An intimate glimpse into a way of life with no parallel on land.
Seasonal note: Year-round as part of cruise itineraries; calm seas Oct–Apr make the rowboat experience most pleasant.
