Sung Sot Cave (Surprise Cave), Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
About This Activity
Surprise Cave (Hang Sung Sot) on Bo Hon Island is Ha Long Bay's largest cave, named by astonished French explorers. A short climb from the jetty leads to two enormous chambers: the first is cathedral-like with stalactites reaching 10 meters; the second opens to a natural terrace with sweeping bay views. LED lighting illuminates the formations along a one-way 500m walk. Included in most overnight cruise itineraries. Sturdy footwear required for the steps; heaviest crowds 10am–2pm so cruise operators typically schedule early or late visits.
Seasonal note: Year-round; included in cruise itineraries. Rainy season (Jun–Aug) can affect visibility and footing.
