About This Activity

Dong Xuan is Hanoi's largest indoor market, operating since 1889 in a sprawling French colonial building at the north end of the Old Quarter. Three floors sell wholesale and retail goods — fresh produce, live animals, clothing, electronics, and souvenirs. The market buzzes before 8am when wholesale transactions peak. Surrounding lanes offer specialist vendors: dried goods on Hang Duong, paper and decorations on Hang Ma, and a lively wet market on the north side. Bargaining is standard — initial prices for tourists run 2–3x the fair rate.

Seasonal note: Year-round; busiest and most atmospheric during Tet preparation weeks (Jan/Feb) when paper goods stalls overflow.
