Klis Fortress Day Trip
Split, Croatia
About This Activity
Klis Fortress perches on a narrow ridge 385m above sea level, commanding views stretching from Split's coastline to the islands beyond. This strategic stronghold changed hands between Croatian rulers, the Ottoman Empire, and Venice for centuries — withstanding a legendary 25-year siege in the 1500s. Game of Thrones fans will recognise it as the city of Meereen. Entry is €10 for adults and includes the fortress and the Interpretation Center on Mejdan Square. The ramparts offer some of the finest panoramic views in Dalmatia. A 20-minute bus or taxi ride from Split makes it an easy half-day excursion.
Seasonal note: Visit spring or autumn for the clearest panoramic views and comfortable temperatures on the exposed ridge
