About This Activity

The Zagreb Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary dominates the city skyline with twin neo-Gothic spires rising 105m — Croatia's tallest structure. Originally built in the 13th century and substantially rebuilt after the devastating 1880 earthquake by architect Herman Bollé, the cathedral houses remarkable medieval art, ornate carved choir stalls, and a silver altar of St. Stanislaus. The treasury holds some of Croatia's most important ecclesiastical artefacts, including illuminated manuscripts and vestments. Entry to the cathedral is free; a small fee applies for the treasury. The surrounding Archbishop's Palace and fortified walls hint at its former role as a fortress.
