About This Activity

Built by Saladin (Salah ad-Din) in the 12th century as a defensive stronghold, the Citadel of Cairo dominated the city's skyline for 700 years and served as Egypt's seat of government until the 19th century. The crown jewel inside is the Mosque of Mohamed Ali, an Ottoman masterpiece built between 1830-1848 with alabaster-covered walls that shimmer gold in the afternoon light. Its twin minarets at 82 meters are visible from across Cairo. From the citadel walls, enjoy one of the city's best panoramic views stretching from the Nile to the Giza Pyramids on clear days. Admission to the complex is 200 EGP.
