Egyptian Museum (Cairo Museum)
Cairo, Egypt
About This Activity
The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square holds over 170,000 artifacts spanning 5,000 years of civilization — it is the world's most comprehensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. The star attraction is the Tutankhamun gallery on the upper floor, featuring the iconic gold funeral mask, golden throne, canopic jars, and the innermost coffin. Don't miss the Royal Mummy Room (extra ticket required, 180 EGP) which houses 22 royal pharaonic mummies including Ramesses II. The museum is old and unair-conditioned in places, so visit in the morning. Admission is 200 EGP for adults. Note: the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza is a newer, world-class facility that houses additional Tutankhamun pieces — consider visiting both.
