About This Activity

Jaipur's Jantar Mantar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the largest of five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the 1720s–30s. Its star instrument, the 27-metre Samrat Yantra sundial, tells time to within 2 seconds. Nineteen masonry and marble instruments measure time, predict eclipses, and track celestial bodies with precision that amazed European astronomers of the era. Hire an on-site guide (₹200–300) to decode what each instrument does; located directly next to City Palace.

Seasonal note: Open daily 9am–7pm year-round. The Samrat Yantra reads most accurately at noon. Pair with City Palace next door to make a half-day.
