Besakih Mother Temple
Denpasar, Indonesia
About This Activity
Pura Besakih is Bali's most important and largest temple complex, comprising 23 separate temples spread across the slopes of the sacred Mount Agung volcano. Known as the Mother Temple of Bali, Besakih has been a place of Hindu worship for over 1,000 years. The central Pura Penataran Agung towers in dramatic tiers against the volcanic backdrop. The site requires modest dress (sarong and sash provided), and local guides are mandatory for entry into certain temple precincts. Visit on a clear morning when Agung's summit is visible to fully appreciate the spiritual grandeur.
