About This Activity
Pura Luhur Uluwatu is one of Bali's six kayangan jagat (directional temples), perched dramatically on a 70-metre sea cliff at the tip of the Bukit Peninsula. The temple is surrounded by a troop of mischievous long-tailed macaques who are known to steal sunglasses and cameras — keep valuables secured. The real highlight is the nightly Kecak fire dance performance staged at the cliff edge as the sun sets, with a cast of 50+ bare-chested men chanting in rhythmic waves around a central fire. The backdrop of ocean and fading light makes this one of Bali's most cinematic experiences.
