About This Activity

Cork City Gaol operated from 1824 to 1923 and held both common criminals and political prisoners during Ireland's War of Independence. The restored castellated building features eerily realistic wax figures in furnished cells, an audio guide narrating inmates' stories, and a Radio Museum upstairs tracing early Irish broadcasting. Adult admission is €10 (audio guide included); guided tours available for an extra €2.50. Open daily year-round.

Seasonal note: Open daily year-round; shorter winter hours (Oct-Feb)
