The English Market has traded in Cork's city centre since 1788 and was famously visited by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. Its Victorian cast-iron interior shelters around 60 traders selling Cork specialities: tripe and drisheen (a blood sausage unique to Cork), smoked fish, charcuterie, artisan bread, and local cheeses. The Farmgate Café on the gallery level serves an outstanding lunch using market ingredients — book ahead for a table. Free to enter; open Monday–Saturday approximately 8am–6pm. Sunday closure is standard.
Seasonal note: Open Mon–Sat year-round; busiest on weekend mornings. Best May–Sep for pairing with outdoor Cork city walks.
