Mount of Olives
Jerusalem, Israel
About This Activity
The Mount of Olives offers the most famous panoramic view of Jerusalem's Old City — a skyline crowned by the golden Dome of the Rock that has been painted and photographed millions of times. The ridge is covered by a large Jewish cemetery, one of the oldest and most sacred in the world, and is dotted with churches marking sites from the last days of Jesus. At its base lies the Garden of Gethsemane, where ancient olive trees (some over 800 years old) stand in the garden where Jesus is said to have prayed the night before his arrest. Morning visits are best for light and photography.
Seasonal note: Year-round. Morning visits best for photography and light.
