About This Activity

Tamaki Drive hugs the Waitemata Harbour shoreline from the CBD to Mission Bay — a 6km coastal route past Hobson Bay, Kohimarama, and St Heliers beaches. Walk it or hire a bike from the city. Mission Bay itself has a safe swimming beach, a photogenic Art Deco fountain, and a promenade of ice cream parlours and waterfront restaurants with Rangitoto Island framed in the bay. Entry is free and the beach is patrolled in summer. Best on a warm afternoon; aim for a summer Sunday when the waterfront buzzes with locals.

Seasonal note: Enjoyable year-round for walking, but swimming and beach culture peak in NZ summer (Dec–Mar).
