Hallasan National Park Summit Hike
Jeju Island, South Korea
About This Activity
Hallasan (1,947m) is South Korea's highest mountain and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, its volcanic slopes spanning subtropical forest, temperate oak and pine, alpine grasslands, and the summit crater lake Baengnoktam. The Seongpanak trail (9.6km one-way) and Gwaneumsa trail (8.7km) are the only routes to the summit — both require a free advance reservation via visithalla.jeju.go.kr. No admission fee; start early (trails close to upward hikers at 12pm to ensure safe descent). Optional ₩1,000 fee for an official summit certificate.
Seasonal note: Year-round but summit can be snow-covered and icy in winter. Best in spring and autumn for clear summit views and comfortable temperatures.
