House of the Virgin Mary
Izmir, Turkey
About This Activity
Perched on Bülbül Dağı (Nightingale Mountain) above Ephesus, this small stone chapel marks where the Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her final years after being brought to the region by the Apostle John. Discovered in 1891 following the visions of a German nun, the site has been officially recognized by multiple popes and draws both Christian and Muslim pilgrims. A wishing wall and sacred spring add to the spiritual atmosphere. The forested mountain setting is peaceful and contemplative.
Seasonal note: Best Apr-Jun and Sep-Nov
