About This Activity

Pamukkale — meaning 'Cotton Castle' in Turkish — is one of Turkey's most surreal natural wonders: a hillside blanketed in bright white calcium carbonate terraces filled with turquoise thermal pools at 35°C. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site paired with the ancient Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis above the cliffs, including a remarkable necropolis, colonnaded street, and the Antique Pool (additional €6) where you can swim among submerged Roman columns. From Izmir, the journey is roughly 3.5-4 hours each way. The €30 ticket covers both travertines and Hierapolis. Enter from the south gate barefoot to protect the formations, and visit early morning before tour groups arrive.

Seasonal note: Best Apr-Jun and Sep-Nov; summer is very hot; winter pools still warm but terraces can be icy
