About This Activity

The more remote and adventurous Needles District of Canyonlands sits about 1.5 hours south of Moab. Named for its red and white banded rock spires, this district is known for excellent hiking and fewer crowds. Highlights include the Cave Spring Trail (0.6-mile loop with ladders), Chesler Park (11-mile loop through dramatic rock corridors), and the Confluence Overlook (11-mile round trip to where the Green and Colorado Rivers merge). The Needles entrance fee is $30/vehicle (shared with Island in the Sky on the same 7-day pass). The 4WD roads here are among Utah's most challenging. Do not combine Needles and Island in the Sky in one day -- they are 2+ hours apart.
