About This Activity

Wade through the Virgin River in one of the world's most famous slot canyon hikes, with towering 1,000-foot walls on both sides. The bottom-up Narrows day hike starts at the Temple of Sinawava (shuttle stop 9) via the paved Riverside Walk, then enters the river itself. Most day hikers go 2-5 miles upstream before turning back. Rent waterproof gear (neoprene socks, canyoneering shoes, walking poles, dry pants) from outfitters in Springdale for about $25-50. The Narrows closes during flash-flood warnings and spring snowmelt runoff, typically reopening by late June. Check the NPS flow-rate page before heading out. Best season: July through October.
