Zion-Mount Carmel Highway
Zion National Park, Utah National Parks
About This Activity
The 10-mile Zion-Mount Carmel Highway (UT-9) connects Zion's south and east entrances through switchbacks, a mile-long tunnel, and dramatic slickrock landscapes. Unlike the Scenic Drive, private vehicles are allowed year-round (oversized vehicles need a $15 tunnel permit). Highlights include Canyon Overlook Trail (1 mile round trip, stunning views), Checkerboard Mesa, and the historic tunnel itself. This road is part of any east-entrance approach and doubles as a scenic half-day drive. Allow 2-3 hours with stops.
