Buenos Aires Jewish Quarter & AMIA Memorial
Buenos Aires, Argentina
About This Activity
Buenos Aires has the largest Jewish community in Latin America (~180,000 people) and the 7th largest worldwide. Walk the Once neighborhood (pronounced "OHN-seh"), the traditional Jewish quarter with synagogues, kosher restaurants, and Yiddish bookshops. Visit the AMIA building memorial (site of the 1994 bombing that killed 85 people — Latin America's deadliest antisemitic attack). The nearby Templo Libertad (1897) is Argentina's most important synagogue. The Museo Judío de Buenos Aires (in the synagogue, ~$5) covers 150+ years of Jewish Argentine life.
Seasonal note: Year-round; museum closed Saturdays
