About This Activity

The Feria de Mataderos is Buenos Aires' most authentic gaucho experience — a sprawling open-air fair in the working-class Mataderos neighborhood. Gauchos on horseback compete in the sortija (spearing a small ring at full gallop), folk musicians perform chacarera and zamba, and food stalls serve locro (corn stew), humitas, and empanadas from Argentina's interior provinces. Far more local than touristy San Telmo — expect Argentine families, not tour groups. Runs every Sunday 11am–8pm from March through December; also open on Argentine national holidays (May 25, July 9, Oct 12). Closed January–February.

Seasonal note: Sundays 11am–8pm, March–December only. Also open on national holidays. No fair in January–February.
