About This Activity

Coptic Cairo is a walled enclave in Old Cairo (Babylon) preserving Egypt's pre-Islamic Christian heritage. The Hanging Church (Al-Muallaqah), built in the 7th century, is the most famous Coptic church in Egypt — it sits suspended above the Roman gate towers of the Babylon Fortress. Nearby, the Coptic Museum holds the world's largest collection of Coptic Christian art including textiles, icons, and manuscripts. The Ben Ezra Synagogue, one of the oldest in Egypt, is also in the complex. The area is best reached via the Mari Girgis metro station (line 1). Admission to the Coptic Museum is 100 EGP.
