Koshary El Tahrir — Egypt's National Dish
Cairo, Egypt
About This Activity
Koshary is Egypt's beloved national street food — a towering bowl of pasta, rice, lentils, chickpeas, crispy fried onions, and spiced tomato sauce with a splash of vinegar. Koshary El Tahrir near Tahrir Square is the city's most famous koshary restaurant, a chaotic, exhilarating operation where servers shout orders across the room and bowls arrive in under two minutes. A large bowl costs about 30-50 EGP ($1-2). The experience is quintessentially Egyptian — fast, cheap, delicious, and utterly authentic. Also recommended: Koshary Abu Tarek on Champollion Street for an equally authentic experience.
