The Archivio di Stato di Firenze on Viale Giovine Italia preserves one of Italy's richest collections of pre-unification records, including notarial deeds dating to the 13th century, guild archives, and the Catasto (cadastral survey) of 1427 — one of the most complete medieval tax records in Europe. For descendants of Tuscan emigrants researching Florentine, Sienese, or Arezzo roots, the archive staff offer guidance free of charge. Entry to the reading room is free; register on arrival with photo ID.
