About This Activity

Ponte Vecchio has been lined with goldsmiths and jewellers since 1593 — cross it into the Oltrarno, Florence's artisan south bank, where small botteghe (workshops) of leatherworkers, hand-marbled paper makers, and mosaic restorers line the lanes around Piazza Santo Spirito. The bridge and neighborhood are free to walk; the real pleasure is watching craftspeople at work and browsing independent shops free of souvenir-market pressure. Best visited at 5–7pm when crowds thin and locals emerge for aperitivo.

Seasonal note: Year-round; most atmospheric April–June and September–October; artisan workshops and gold shops generally close Sundays
