About This Activity

The Tempio Maggiore (1882) is one of the most striking synagogues in Europe — its copper-green dome, Moorish arches, and polychrome interior rival any church in Florence. Built after the ghetto was demolished during Italian unification, it symbolized Jewish emancipation. The attached museum covers 500 years of Tuscan Jewish life, including ritual objects saved from the 1944 Nazi deportation (when the synagogue was used as a German garage — the flooding helped preserve hidden artifacts). €7.50 adults. Closed Saturdays.
