About This Activity

Lucca's Renaissance walls (4.2 km) are the defining feature of this perfectly preserved medieval city — wide enough at the top to serve as a tree-lined promenade, they are best toured by rented bicycle from one of the stalls at the gates. Inside the walls, find the Guinigi Tower with oak trees growing from its summit, the Romanesque Duomo, and the amphitheater-shaped Piazza dell'Anfiteatro. Trains from Florence Santa Maria Novella run hourly (80 minutes, from €8). A relaxed day with minimal crowds.

* Guingi Tower in Lucca * Piazza dell’Anfiteatro * St. Martin Cathedral * Town of Lucca

Seasonal note: Best spring and autumn; Lucca Comics in October
