About This Activity

Central Otago produces some of the world's most acclaimed Pinot Noir, grown at the world's most southerly wine latitude in a dramatic high-altitude schist landscape. Gibbston Valley (25 minutes from Queenstown) is the closest sub-region, home to Peregrine Wines (the falcon-shaped winery is architecturally stunning) and Gibbston Valley Winery with its cave cellar carved into schist. Guided half-day tours from Queenstown start from NZ$199 per adult, including transport and all tastings; full-day tours including lunch from NZ$239. Pinot Gris and Riesling are also outstanding from this region. Book ahead for summer.

Seasonal note: Harvest season (Feb–Apr) is the most atmospheric time to visit; wine tours run year-round
