About This Activity

Queenstown Hill (Te Tapu-nui, 'mountain of intense sacredness') rises 907 metres above town and the hike to the summit from the end of Lomond Crescent takes about 1.5–2 hours return through pine forest and native bush. At the top, a 360-degree panorama takes in the Z-bend of Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables range, Cecil and Walter Peaks, and the Crown Range. A 'basket of dreams' sculpture installation sits near the summit. The track is well-formed and suitable for moderate fitness; go early to beat heat and cloud build-up. Entirely free.

Seasonal note: Hikeable year-round; summer gives clearest views; winter can have snow near the summit
