About This Activity

Boulders Beach is one of the few places in the world where you can walk among wild penguins. The sheltered granite boulder-fringed beach near Simon's Town is home to over 3,000 African penguins (also called jackass penguins for their braying call). Boardwalks thread through the nesting grounds, allowing close-up encounters without disturbing the birds. Peak breeding season is March–May when fluffy chicks appear. The colony began with just two breeding pairs in 1982 and has grown dramatically — a conservation success story. Often combined with a Cape Point day trip.
