Robben Island Museum Tour
Cape Town, South Africa
About This Activity
Robben Island is South Africa's most powerful symbol of the long walk to freedom. The UNESCO World Heritage Site sits 11 kilometres off Cape Town in Table Bay, and was once the apartheid government's most notorious maximum security prison. Ferry tours depart from the V&A Waterfront and include a guided bus tour of the island and a walk through the prison led by a former political prisoner. Section B, cell 5 — where Mandela spent 18 of his 27 incarcerated years — is the emotional heart of the visit. Book well in advance as tours sell out daily.
