Retiro Park
Madrid, Spain
About This Activity
El Retiro is Madrid's green lung — a 125-hectare UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 2021) that was once the private grounds of the Spanish royal family. Rent a rowboat on the grand reflecting pool (€7–€8 per boat for 45 minutes), visit the stunning glass Crystal Palace hosting free contemporary art exhibitions, wander the formal rose garden (Rosaleda), and watch street performers near the Alfonso XII monument. The park is busiest on Sunday mornings when locals gather for the traditional paseo. Entry to the park is free.
Seasonal note: Year-round. Spring brings the Rosaleda into bloom (May–June); summer evenings are a local social ritual.
