About This Activity

Kata and Karon beaches on Phuket's west coast are the island's finest stretches of sand for swimming and sunbathing. Kata Noi, the smaller southern cove, is particularly beautiful — a curve of white sand backed by tropical hills. Kata is popular with surfers from May to October when waves pick up. Karon's 3km of beach is longer and quieter, perfect for paddleboarding. Beach chairs cost 100–150 THB per day with umbrella service. Kata Viewpoint between the two beaches offers one of Phuket's most photographed panoramas.

Seasonal note: Best for swimming Nov–Apr (calm, clear water); May–Oct brings surf swells good for experienced surfers but swim flags may be up
