Ben Thanh Market, Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
About This Activity
Ben Thanh Market (Chợ Bến Thành) has been Saigon's central market since 1914, its mustard-yellow clock tower an enduring city symbol. Inside, hundreds of stalls sell fresh seafood, tropical fruit, dried goods, Vietnamese coffee, lacquerware, and clothing. Front-facing food stalls offer excellent banh mi, com tam (broken rice), and fresh sugarcane juice. Arrive before 8am for the best produce atmosphere; evening streets outside become an outdoor night market. Bargaining is expected — initial prices for tourists are 2–3x fair value.
Seasonal note: Year-round. Most lively Dec–Jan during holiday shopping season.
