Alto Adige Winery Visit & Tasting
Bolzano, Italy
About This Activity
Alto Adige (South Tyrol) consistently produces some of Italy's highest-scoring white wines — a fact less widely known than it deserves. The region's cool Alpine climate, combined with south-facing slopes above the Adige valley floor, creates ideal growing conditions for aromatic varieties. Cantina Bolzano (Kellerei Bozen), a large cooperative near the city center, and several smaller estate wineries within cycling distance offer guided tastings with views over the vineyard-terraced valley walls. A typical tasting covers 5-6 wines: perhaps a mineral Pinot Grigio, a floral Gewürztraminer, a structured Lagrein (a bold red native to Bolzano), and a Pinot Nero (Blauburgunder). Combined with a visit to the Ötzi Museum, this makes for a perfect Bolzano day.
Seasonal note: Year-round; summer best for outdoor activities; December for Christmas markets
