About This Activity

The hills encircling Bolzano are planted with vineyards producing some of Italy's most acclaimed white wines under the Alto Adige (South Tyrol) DOC denomination. The region is particularly celebrated for its aromatic white varieties: Gewürztraminer (which originated in the village of Tramin/Termeno south of Bolzano), Pinot Grigio, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc. The South Tyrol Wine Route (Strada del Vino) winds through the Adige valley linking winery cellars, wine bars, and tasting rooms that welcome visitors throughout the year. Several wineries are within a short bus or bike ride from Bolzano's center. A half-day tour or self-guided cycling excursion along the route pairs beautifully with the dramatic Dolomite backdrop.

Seasonal note: Year-round; summer best for outdoor activities; December for Christmas markets
