About This Activity

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep is Chiang Mai's most revered temple, set at 1,073 meters on the mountain overlooking the city. The golden chedi is said to enshrine a relic of the Buddha and has been sacred since 1383. Reach the temple by red songthaew shared truck from Chang Pueak Gate (80 THB return) then climb the famous 309-step naga staircase or take the funicular (20 THB extra). Temple admission is 30 THB. Go early to avoid tour groups and enjoy the cool mountain air; the mountain is also the gateway to Doi Suthep-Pui National Park for onward hiking.

Seasonal note: Open daily 6am–6pm year-round; cool season (Nov–Feb) offers crisp mountain air; avoid smoky haze period (Feb–Apr)
