About This Activity

Chiang Mai's walled Old City contains over 30 temples from the Lanna Kingdom era (1296–1558). A self-guided morning walk connects the three most important: Wat Chedi Luang (a ruined 14th-century chedi that was once the city's tallest structure, with free monk chats most mornings), Wat Phra Singh (housing the revered Phra Singh Buddha image), and Wat Chiang Man, the city's oldest temple founded in 1296. All three are within a 3km loop; most temples are free or ask a small voluntary donation. Comfortable walking shoes and modest dress are required.

Seasonal note: Open year-round; mornings before 9am are quietest; avoid smoky haze season (Feb–Apr) for outdoor walks
