About This Activity

Karnak is the world's largest surviving ancient religious site — a 2km² complex of temples, chapels, obelisks, and pylons built over 2,000 years by successive pharaohs. The Hypostyle Hall, with 134 massive columns reaching 24 meters high, is one of the greatest architectural achievements in history; the sheer scale makes visitors feel like ants beneath their carved hieroglyphics. Don't miss the Sacred Lake (site of ancient purification rites), the obelisks of Hatshepsut and Thutmose I, and the Avenue of Sphinxes that once stretched 3km to Luxor Temple. Arrive at opening (6am) to avoid the midday heat. Admission is 450 EGP. The Sound & Light Show (evenings, 200 EGP) is atmospheric but optional.
