Luxor Temple
Luxor, Egypt
About This Activity
Luxor Temple stands at the center of modern Luxor city, seamlessly blending ancient Egypt into urban life. Built primarily by Amenhotep III and expanded by Ramesses II around 1400 BC, the temple was dedicated to the Opet Festival celebrating the union of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. Two seated colossi of Ramesses II flank the entrance pylon, alongside a single standing obelisk (its partner stands in the Place de la Concorde in Paris). A mosque (Abu Haggag) sits incongruously atop one of the inner courts. The temple is spectacular during the day but even more atmospheric at night when dramatically lit. Admission 200 EGP. Open until 10pm.
