The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove's 500 m path through towering bamboo is free and open 24 hours — arrive before 8 am for uncrowded, ethereal light filtering through the stalks. Adjacent Tenryu-ji (¥500 garden only, ¥1,000 with temple buildings) is a UNESCO World Heritage Zen garden with a koi pond framing Mt. Arashiyama. Cross the Togetsukyo Bridge and optionally climb the Monkey Park (¥600) for panoramic Kyoto views.
