About This Activity
Kinkaku-ji — the Temple of the Golden Pavilion — is covered in real gold leaf on its top two floors and reflects perfectly in the surrounding mirror pond. Admission is ¥500 for adults (open daily 9 am–5 pm); the circling garden path takes 30–45 minutes. Arrive at opening or after 3:30 pm to avoid the worst crowds. The UNESCO World Heritage site is most magical in winter snow (December–February) when gold contrasts white.
