Spend a focused half-day on Arashiyama's greatest hits at your own pace. Start at the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove at dawn when it's crowd-free, continue through the UNESCO-listed Tenryu-ji garden with its pond framing Mt. Arashiyama, and cross the Togetsukyo Bridge over the Oi River. The Monkey Park on the hill adds optional views of the Kyoto basin. Plan for 3 hours of walking on mostly flat terrain.
