Mochi Rice Cake Making at a Local Kyoto Farm
Kyoto, Japan
About This Activity
A third-generation farming family near Otsu (40 minutes from Kyoto) welcomes small groups for a hands-on mochi rice cake making session using traditional wooden mallets and mortars with their own homegrown rice. You pound the rice, shape the mochi, and choose from traditional toppings including kinako (roasted soy flour), anko (red bean paste), and soy sauce. The experience ends with a farm-to-table sukiyaki hot pot using fresh chicken and seasonal vegetables from the farm garden.
Seasonal note: New rice harvest season Oct-Nov
